How to Get Sparkling Windows at Home?
Washing windows is a task many people dislike. This is particularly true for homes with a lot of windows, windows with grids, or ones that are difficult to access. Part of the reason this task is unpopular is because the approach is all wrong.
Professional window cleaners do not use wadded-up paper towels, rags, or newspaper along side a big bucket of sudsy water. Approaching cleaning your windows this way simply moves the dirt around. Wetting the surface of the window glass will attract even more dirt to it.
Try these methods that professionals use to achieve a streak-free shine:
Equipment
Make sure you start with the right tools when you start cleaning your windows. You should have:
Cleaning Solution
There are many commercial window cleaners available at the store. Made from a variety of chemicals and raw materials, some of these cleaners may present a problem to people who are sensitive to fragrances or chemicals. These types of cleaners may also present a problem if they are used around small children, or pets. If you don’t have a cleaning brand you trust, consider making your own all-natural cleaning solution by mixing 50% water with 50% white vinegar.
Squeegee
There are different squeegees to choose from, and it is important to have one that feels comfortable in your hand. To clean like a professional use one that is commercial grade and has a streak-free rubber blade and comfort grip.
Lint-Free Towel
These rags or towels are not for the window and should not touch the glass. They are for frequently wiping off the squeegee.
Method
Pollution and filth collect on your windows over time, limiting your view and limiting valuable sunshine. The only thing that could be worse? Dirty streaks as a result of incorrect cleaning
Follow these expert cleaning tips to keep your view clean and your light-loving houseplants pleased. Your windows will never have looked better!
Timing
There is an ideal time to clean your windows. While a bright and sunny day can make the task more appealing for you, it is actually not in your best interest. Glass reflects and intensified sunlight, and exposing yourself to the intensified rays will not protect your vision. Cloudy days are best. If you are unable to wait for an overcast day, clean when the sun is not directly facing the windows.
Cleaning Solution
Depending on your cleaning agent of choice, it may come in a spray bottle or require being diluted in a bucket with water. Some solutions require at least 2 galloons of water, so make sure you use a large enough bucket. Be sure to protect your eyes when spraying the solution or dripping the squeegee into the bucket.
Squeegee Technique
Start at the top corner of the glass and glide the squeegee horizontally.
Press the squeegee blade against the glass in the upper corner. Steadily pull it across the window with even pressure, keeping the top of the squeegee in contact with the top edge of the window.
Wipe the blade with a lint-free towel kept within reach. Wipe it across the scrubber blade to remove dirt and excess water.
Work your way down the window by overlapping the previous stroke with the last, pulling the squeegee across the window at an agnle directing the excess water down
Once you have mastered this technique, you will find that window cleaning is not a chore to dread and can actually be kind of calming. Studies show that people who listen to music while working on repetitive tasks perform better, faster and maintain a better mood. So grab your headphones or fill the house with your favorite music to get you through your window cleaning project like a pro.
